Use in and out points to remove any parts at the beginning or end of your recording that you don’t need (like looking at the ground as you hit stop). Import your footage and put it on a video track. Fully covering Premiere is outside the scope of this workshop- for more information refer to our Introduction to Video Prototyping workshop.
#Capturing reality photogrammetry how to clean up mesh software
You can use a video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Media Encoder to edit and convert your video to stills. If you used photograph stills, you can skip this processing step however, you’ll need to make sure you’ve accurately taken enough images from various angles to create a mesh that’s not broken (missing areas or details of the object). Once filming of your object has been completed, you’ll need to convert your video into stills referred to as a ‘ data set’. For example, if your object has a cast shadow then it may create some limitations for the end use lighting without further editing.

Computing into a mesh will still work in these instances, it all depends on the end results you want to achieve. Objects that are symmetrical with little variation with surface detail may not compute well into a mesh- look for objects with uneven details, textures and matte surfaces.įilming on cloudy days or with diffused light yields the best results for reduction in sun spots or glare, material refraction, and cast shadows. You can scan people if they stand still during the filming process. Gardens, leaves, flowers- objects with a lot of negative space or that aren’t very solid don’t tend to register as well. Tips: solid forms without reflections work the best. Any other objects around the form can be confusing in the mesh computing process, so remove extraneous grass, twigs, and smaller forms as possible to save editing time later. Holding your phone/ camera steady, circle around the object while recording, adjusting the camera slightly to take in all plane views (sides/ top). This is one of the reasons video can work well, it removes some guess work. This is necessary for the algorithm to track features of the object and understand where you took the photo from- image sets without enough overlap will fail. If you’re taking photos, make sure each image overlaps with the last. Select an object that allows you to walk around it filming from various angles to capture its geometry- think of moving your phone/ camera around it in a 360 degree dome or cylinder. Capturing the object as photos may take longer initially- the advantage is it saves you a processing step and may result in a higher quality model. Recording as video can simplify the process of capturing an object, but it will add a processing step to export the recording into still images. More images can result in a higher quality model however, this exponentially increases processing time so it’s important to find a balance depending on your project needs.
